Zeeland 1693 4 daalder Dav-A4973
This specimen was lot 70 in Schulman auction 388 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$6,200 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Piedfort dubbele daalder van 10 schelling, ZEELAND Provincie 1580 - 1795, 1693, Silver Staande ridder met gekroond provinciewapen aan de voet . LUCTOR. ET - EMERGO ♖. Kz. wapens van de Zeeuwse steden in een cirkel . MO. NO. ARG. ORDIN. ZEELANDIAE. jaartal en waarde als IO - SC. Gladde rand. Uit de Zeeuwse Leeuw collectie. RRR. Uiterst zeldzaam jaartal Rand licht bewerkt, aantrekkelijke patina. Vrijwel prachtig. (piedfort double dollar of ten schillings of 1693, province of Zeeland. Obverse: standing knight supports the provincial arms; reverse: municipal arms arranged in a circle, date above, plain edge, from the Zeeland Lion collection, extremely rare date, tooling on edge, attractive patina, about extremely fine.)"
The regular ten schilling of normal weight was struck in moderate numbers 1685-93. According to the SCWC, this rare double weight piedfort was struck 1693 only; however, we have posted a similar piedfort dated 1687.
