Sincona sale 69, lot 913

This specimen was lot 913 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$4,247 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Zeeland, Provinz. 1/2 Rose Noble o. J. Münzzeichen Turm. Halbfigur des Königs stehend innerhalb eines Schiffes, Schwert und Schild haltend; Wappen von Zeeland auf Banner nach links, Rose auf dem Schiffsrumpf. Rv. Strahlende Sonne, umher abwechselnd gekrönter Löwe und Lilie im Achtpass. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, undated half rose noble, mintmark: tower. Obverse: half-length bust of the king standing in a ship, bearing a sword and shield, arms of Zeeland on a banner to the left, rose on the stern; reverse: shining sun, crowned lion and lily in an octolobe. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck without date 1591-1602. An imitation of an English gold coin of the fifteenth century, it was accompanied by a noble. Several other Dutch towns and provinces struck this type.
