The first specimen was lot 21431 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. 1/2 Rose Noble, ND (1600-01). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Struck in imitation of the earlier English issue, this example displays glittering luster and surfaces that appear Mint State." The second specimen was lot 33108 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[2] noted, "Netherlands. Utrecht. Provincial gold Imitative 1/2 Rose Noble ND (c. 1601-1602) MS63 NGC. A comparatively scarce fractional emission that appears with much greater irregularity than its larger, full-size imitation Rose Noble counterparts, with this being the first such piece we have offered. Fielding an incredibly engaging luster that positively shimmers across the fields as the coin is rotated in hand, to say that locating a finer example is difficult is an understatement--only one presently certifies finer at NGC, and that by just a single grade point. From the Abbeygate Collection." This imitation half rose noble was also struck in Kampen (Fr-152).

Recorded mintage: 189,000 for 1600-02.

Specification: 3.85 g, 0.986 fine gold, the second specimen 3.78 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-177; KM-5; Delm-958.
