Zeeland 1591 rijksdaalder Dav-8875
This specimen was lot 45476 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Zeeland. Rijksdaalder, 1591. NGC EF-45. A decently struck coin with the typical points of weakness for the type. The surfaces are free of distracting marks with gray to dark gray tone. The obverse of this coin depicts William the Silent (or Taciturn), leader of the Dutch Revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs. He was assassinated in 1584." This type is listed in Davenport for 1591-92 along with a rare double prinsen rijksdaalder. This type is better known from Westfriesland (Dav-8864).
