Jean Elsen sale 153, lot 1705

This specimen was lot 1705 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (Brussels, December 2022), where it sold for €240 (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Provincie, AR gehelmde rijksdaalder, 1591. Vz/ Geharnast bb. van Willem de Zwijger met zwaard n.r. Kz/ Hollands wapen onder een toernooihelm. Gereinigd vondstexemplaar. bijna Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, silver rijksdaalder of 1591. Obverse: armored bust of William the Silent with sword to right; reverse: helmeted arms of Holland. Irregular edge, about Very Fine)"

This daalder with the portrait of the martyred William the Silent was also struck in Holland (Dav-8841), Zeeland (Dav-8875) and Westfriesland (Dav-8864).
