Künker sale 406, lot 4781

This specimen was lot 4781 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$446 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE, ZEELAND, Provinz. 1/2 Reichstaler 1591. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Zeeland, half daalder of 1591. Planchet defects, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1609-13, 1619-31, 1634-35, 1646-62 along with halve leeuwendaalders. While not rare in low grade, because of its crude fabric this half daalder is quite scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.51 g, 0.882 fine silver, this specimen 14.05 g.

Catalog reference: KM 25, Delm-936 (R2); Purmer/van der Wiel Ze 40.
