Yemen was at the far eastern end of lands dominated by the Ayyubid dynasty (AH 566-633, 1171-1341 AD). This dynasty was founded by Saladin and originally centered in Egypt. By the 1230’s, however Ayyubid influence in Yemen had declined, making way for the locally-derived Rasulid dynasty.
The specimen shown is a silver one dirham from the ruler Nasir Abu al-Mudhaffar, who ruled 1202-1214 AD. It is dated AH 610, or about 1213 AD, and struck at the Ta'izz mint.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.04g, silver.
