Künker Auction 439, lot 2681

This specimen was lot 2681 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,307 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, WÜRTTEMBERG Wilhelm II., 1891-1918. 2 Mark 1913. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung PR 65 (55959188). Prachtvolle Patina, polierte Platte. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Heidelberger Münzhandlung, Herbert Grün 44, Teil II, Heidelberg 2005, Nr. 4671. (kingdom of Württemberg, William II, 1891-1918, two mark of 1913. Graded PCGS PR-65, outstanding patina, proof.)"

Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. This type was struck 1892-93, 1896-1908, 1912-14 along with silver three and five mark and gold ten and twenty mark pieces. The two mark is common. Coin issues ceased at the start of World War One and the kingdom was abolished with the collapse of the Empire in 1918.

Recorded mintage: 225,675, a slightly better date. Proofs exist.
