This specimen was lot 42273 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamburg. 2 Mark, 1913-J. Hamburg Mint. Free City. NGC PROOF-67. A lovely Superb-Gem proof, offering bold lustrous eye appeal, handsome peripheral watercolor toning of varied intensity with increasing fortitude at the center of the reverse." Hamburg, on the North Sea, was one of two imperial free cities permitted a continued existence under the Empire of 1871; Bremen was the other. This type is common and was struck 1892-93, 1896-1914. The Hamburg mint is still in operation, striking coins for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Recorded mintage: 105,325 plus a few proofs.

Specifications: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
