Wurttemberg 1913-F 3 mark
This specimen was lot 20676 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. 3 Mark, 1913-F. Freudenstadt Mint. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Incredible quality. Single finest certified by either NGC or PCGS. Razor sharp strike, brilliant with hard mirror fields and frosted cameo devices. For the discriminating collector who wants the finest." This three mark piece was struck 1908-14 at the Stuttgart mint (mintmark "F") for the kingdom of Württemberg, a member of the German Empire. The three mark was roughly equal to the old thaler and superseded it after 1908. Coin issues ceased at the start of World War One and the kingdom was abolished with the collapse of the Empire in 1918.
