Wurttemberg 1901-F 5 mark Dav-964
This specimen was lot 2684 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, WÜRTTEMBERG Wilhelm II., 1891-1918. 5 Mark 1901. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung PF 65 CAMEO (8585922-002). Feine Patina, polierte Platte. (kingdom of Württemberg, William II, 1891-1918, five mark of 1901. Graded NGC PF-65 CAMEO. Fine patina, proof.)"
Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. This five mark piece was issued from the Stuttgart mint in 1901. Altho all the various states of the German Empire were entitled to strike silver five mark coins, many emitted only a few. This type is known for 1892-1913 and is quite common.
Recorded mintage: 210,700 plus a few proofs.
