Wurttemberg 1838-AD gulden
This specimen was lot 4539 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €380 (about US$497 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Wilhelm I. 1816-1864. Gulden 1838. Mit A. D. unter dem Kopf. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Feine Patina, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Wurttemberg, William I, 1816-64, gulden of 1838. Rare in this condition, fine patina, about uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1837-38. While not common, it is quite a bit more available than the issues of 1824-25. It is lighter in weight but higher in fineness so that it contains the same amount of silver. It was superseded by KM 574, struck 1839-56 by the millions.
Recorded mintage: 443,000 for 1837-38.
Specification: 10.60 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 10.59 g.
