Künker Auction 440, lot 3592

This specimen was lot 3592 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €380 (about US$523 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Wilhelm I., 1816-1864. 20 Kreuzer 1823. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit W · unter dem Kopf auf der Vorderseite. Mit glattem Rand. Vorzüglich. Privat erworben. (kingdom of Württemberg, William I, 1816-64, twenty kreuzer of 1823, with "W ·" under the head on the obverse and plain edge. Extremely fine.)"

King William began his reign as a liberal, granting Württemberg a constitution and reforming taxes, customs duties and agriculture, but grew reactionary after the revolutions of 1848. The convention thaler, last struck in 1818, was 120 kreuzer. This is the last issue of this denomination.
