This specimen was lot 3764 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $434.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. 2 Gulden, 1824-W. NGC AU-58. Old envelope toning with gold and light blue hues over lustrous surfaces. Just a touch of wear on high point of head. From the Rockaway Collection." The double gulden was another odd denomination that fell in between the thaler and double thaler in size. Two types of double gulden are recorded for Wurttemberg in 1824, varying in the presence of "W" below the bust.
Recorded mintage: 15,467 for all varieties.
Specification: 25.45 g, 0.750 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
