Jean Elsen sale 146, lot 1514

This specimen was lot 1514 in Jean Elsen sale 146 (Brussels, November 2020), where it sold for €110 (about US$160 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR zilveren dukaat, 1708. Vz/ Staande ridder n.r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond generaliteitswapen. Dubbelslag. Vlekjes kopergroen. Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver ducat of 1708. Obverse: standing knight with sword and provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Double struck, Very Fine.)"

Westfriesland coinage for the first decade of the eighteenth century is scanty and erratic. We see a copper duit (KM 100), a billon double stuiver (KM 101, 106.1), silver scheepjesschilling (KM 102.1), gulden (KM 97.1), three gulden (KM 95.2), ducaton (KM 68, 107.1) and the last lion daalders (KM 108). The next silver ducat was struck in 1744 (KM 128.1).
