Westfriesland 1672 2 ducat Fr-292
This specimen was lot 305 in Schulman sale 347 (Amsterdam, April 2015), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,861 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "dubbele dukaat. 1672. type i. Staande ridder met Spaanse helm, zwaard en zeven pijlen in bundel tussen jaartal CONCORDIA• RES• – PA – RVÆ• CRES: WEST• 5-bladige bloem. Met binnencirkel. Kz. vierkant met tekst MO• ORDI / PROVIN / FOEDER / BELG• AD / LEG• imp. en met gladde rand. RRR. Miniem opgewreven. Zeer scherpe slag, uiterst mooi exemplaar. Prachtig +. Van dit jaartal is er buiten dit exemplaar slechts één ander stuk door ons verhandeld sinds 1880 (zie veiling 278 van 21 februari 1984), welke is aangekocht door de nederlandsche Bank." Gold ducats of Westfriesland (Fr-294) are fairly common but double ducats not so much. The SCWC lists this type for 1660-73, 1684 and 1694-96.
