Westfriesland 1651 rijksdaalder Dav-4842
This specimen was lot 2206 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €160 (about US$228 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR Nederlandse rijksdaalder, 1651. Vz/ Geharnast en gelauwerd borstbeeld n.r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Klein defekt in de muntplaat op kz. bijna Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver Dutch rijksdaalder of 1651. Obverse: armored and laureate knight right, with sword and provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Small planchet defect on the obverse. about Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck with this mintmark 1649-59, 1668, 1675, 1683, 1693, along with lion daalders (Dav-4870), silver ducats (Dav-4908), ducatons (Dav-4941) and three gulden (Dav-4961).
