Steve Album sale 51, lot 3881

This specimen was lot 3881 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $108. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Republic, AR 500 lira, 1984, World Fisheries Conference, mintage of only 763 pieces, Choice Proof, R." This type was struck at Istanbul and the Royal Mint in copper-nickel, silver and gold. Numista says the gold issue was included in sets containing Cape Verde (KM 22b), Ghana (KM 21b), São Tomé and Príncipe (KM 41b), Mozambique (KM 106b), Seychelles (KM 53b), Somalia (KM 40b), Liberia (KM 47b) and Uruguay (KM 86b).

Recorded mintage: 2,710 in coin alignment plus 3,906 in medal alignment plus 1,575 in sterling silver plus 90 in gold.

Specifications: KM 968: 28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter, reeded edge; KM-968a: 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM 968b: 47.54 g, 0.917 fine gold.
