Trautson 1634 ducat Fr-897
This specimen was lot 3478 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €5,250 (about US$7,076 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE ÖSTERREICHISCHEN STANDESHERREN, TRAUTSON, GRAFEN, Johann Franz, 1621-1663. Dukat 1634. Brustbild r. im geistlichen Gewand//Gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild. GOLD. RR Attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (Austrian dependencies, county of Trautson, John Francis, 1621-63, ducat of 1634. Obverse: bust right in clerical dress; reverse: quartered arms with escutcheon. Rare, attractive extremely fine example/)"
This rare type is noted for 1634 and 1638. The count's father was given the mint right as a reward for his service to the emperor as governor of Tyrol. All issues from this locality are rare and expensive.
