Trautson 1636 thaler Dav-3429
This specimen was lot 4896 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. DIE ÖSTERREICHISCHEN STANDESHERREN, TRAUTSON, GRAFEN. Johann Franz, 1621-1663. Reichstaler 1636, Wien. R Hübsche Patina, min. berieben, fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, counts of Trautson. John Francis, 1621-63, thaler of 1636, Vienna mint. handsome toning, light tooling, about extremely fine.)"
The count's father was given the mint right as a reward for his service to the emperor as governor of Tyrol. This type was struck 1636-39. A ducat (Fr-897) also exists. All issues from this locality are rare and expensive.
