This specimen was lot 31085 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maria Theresia Gold 1/2 Ducat 1780 HS, MS62 NGC. Obv. Draped bust right. Rev. Crowned double-headed eagle with date and value. Lustrous with a few light marks on the obverse. A very scarce type. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman / B.G. Johnson." This tiny half ducat was struck for the redoubtable Maria Theresia 1770-80. An earlier type with a diademed bust (KM 625) was minted 1750-65 but has the same Friedberg number. Unlike the Empire, where Maria Theresia had to rule thru her husband Franz (and later her son Joseph), she was queen of Hungary outright.
