Transylvania 1777-G BV 1/4 ducat Fr-194
This specimen was lot 1856 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HEILIGES ROMISCH REICH, Joseph II. 1765-1790. 1/4 Dukat 1777 G BV, Nagybànya. Münzmeister Joseph Brunner, Wardein Joseph Vischer. Gutes vorzüglich. Winzige Kratzer. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-90, quarter ducat of 1777, Nagybànya mint. Good extremely fine, Tiny scratches.)"
The Transylvanian mints (Karlsburg and Nagybanya) issued a whole series of fractional ducats, including, one eighth, quarter and half ducats. Unlike the Empire, where Maria Theresia had to rule thru her husband Franz (and later her son Joseph), she was queen of Hungary and Transylvania outright.
