Sincona sale 69, lot 1077

This specimen was lot 1077 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$133 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HEILIGES ROMISCHES REICH. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1 Kreuzer 1780 N, Nagybanya. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleine Kratzer. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, one kreuzer of 1780, Nagybánya mint. Rare, Good very fine, Small scratches.)"

A diligent search of the SCWC has failed to turn up this type. Altho Nagybanya is in Transylvania, that province is not mentioned on the coin, so we have filed it under Hungary. We may be wrong in this, as the denomination is spelled "KREUTZER" rather than "KRAJCZAR". The kreuzer was 1/120 of a thaler in the late eighteenth century.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, this specimen 8.02 g.

Catalog reference: Huszar 1763. Herinek 1624.
