Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 807

This specimen was lot 807 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €14,000 (about US$18,205 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TOURNAI, Seigneurie, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AV double souverain, 1616. D/ Les archiducs trônant de f., Albert ten. une épée et Isabelle ten. un sceptre. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. DOM· TORN· Z· en fin de légende. Très rare. Superbe. (lordship of Tournai, Albert and Isabella, 1598-1621, gold double souverain of 1616. Obverse: the archdukes enthroned facing, Albert holding a sword and Isabella holding a scepter; reverse: crowned arms, order chain around, "DOM· TORN· Z·" at the end of the legend. Very rare, Extremely Fine.)"

This type is listed undated (KM 23.1) and dated (KM 23.2, 1612-20). The denomination was struck until 1657 with the portrait of Philip IV (KM 55).

Reported Mintage: 23,000 for 1616-17.
