Teutonic Order 1614-CO 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 1563 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €420 (about US$566 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Erzherzog Maximilian als Hochmeister des Deutschen Ordens, 1585-1590-1618. 1/2 Reichstaler 1614, Hall. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Maximilian as Grandmaster of the Teutonic Order, 1585-1618, half thaler of 1614, Hall mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
Altho the Teutonic Order is best remembered in history for its activities in Prussia and Latvia, these scarce half thalers were minted for them in Hall. The next half thaler was issued in 1616.
