Sincona sale 23, lot 2131

This specimen was lot 2131 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,759 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Deutscher Orden, Maximilian I. von Österreich, 1590-1618 3 Taler 1614. Hall. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Teutonic Order, Maximilian of Austria (1590-1618), three thaler of 1614, Hall mint. Very fine to good very fine.)"

Altho the Teutonic Order is best remembered in history for its activities in Prussia and Latvia, these scarce double thalers were minted for them in Hall in Tyrol. Double thalers (Dav-A5854) also exist.
