Sincona sale 87, lot 3097

This specimen was lot 3097 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$2,155 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, Friedrich I. 1720-1751. Riksdaler 1731, Stockholm. Mit der Signatur GZ (Georg Zedritz, Münzmeister in Stockholm, 1722-1723 und 1730-1738) und der Stempelschneidersignatur CH (Johann Carl Hedlinger). Mit Randschrift. Selten. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 38, Zürich, September 1995, Los 2886. Exemplar der Auktion UBS, Basel, Januar 1988, Los 2833. (kingdom of Sweden, Frederick I, 1720-51, riksdaler of 1731, Stockholm mint, with mintmaster's initials GZ. With lettered edge. Rare, Extremely fine.)"

This type with showing the king and queen was accompanied by another riksdaler (KM 395.2) showing Frederick alone, struck 1730-33. This coin was struck 1731 only. Riksdalers were struck steadily but always in small numbers, suggesting the country was starved of bullion. However, copper plate money was exported in large quantities.

Recorded mintage: 9,000 plus 8,841 of KM 395.2.
