Sweden 1735 half ducat rev H3029-30989.jpg

This specimen was lot 30989 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederick I gold 1/2 Ducat 1735-GZ, UNC Details (Damaged) NGC. Fully struck and quite attractive with original patina, very lightly bent, visible mostly from the reverse. The metal has not been creased; just a faint wave to the flan." This coin with its trifling mintage is not even listed as rare in the SCWC, demonstrating how underrated the minors are compared to the well-studied riksdalers. The last half ducat was issued in 1755.

Recorded mintage: 304.

Specification: 1.74 g, .976 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 422, SM-44, Fr-65.
