Sweden 1719 daler
This specimen was lot 31781 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $440.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ulrika Eleonora DeGortz Daler 1719, MS63 Red Brown NGC. Hoppet emergency coinage, with an inverted heart between S - M. A choice lustrous example, rarely seen in this condition." This copper daler was struck in Sweden in the closing stages of the Great Northern War when Sweden was losing and the government bankrupt. This series (the SCWC lists ten types issued 1715-19) was supposed to be redeemed in silver after the peace. When this didn't happen, the government official responsible for their issue was executed.
Recorded mintage: 1,500,000.
Specification: 4.5 g, copper.
