Künker sale 263, lot 2038

This specimen was lot 2038 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,134 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KÖNIGREICH Karl XII. 1697-1718. Riksdaler 1718, Stockholm. Mit Stern im Mittelschild. Attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles XII, 1697-1718, riksdaler of 1718, Stockholm mint, with star on escutcheon. Attractive extremely fine.)"

In the pre-reform Swedish coinage, 8 öre = one mark and 96 öre = one riksdaler. This scarce one year type, the last for king Carl XII, has long been expensive. A very rare variety exists with a rosette on the reverse arms rather than a star.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: silver.
