This specimen was lot 22781 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $7,637.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "St. Gallen Canton 2 Taler 1620, VF25 ANACS, traditional standing bear on obverse, double headed eagle on reverse. A great rarity, missing from the important four-part Bank Leu Swiss sales 2001-2005. A rim flaw at 6:00, yet overall quite acceptable with no major problems. This date is listed, but unpriced in most catalogues." The SCWC notes this type for 1620-21 only. Thalers for St. Gall are few and far between; this double thaler is extremely rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
