The first specimen was lot 242 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, Spain, November 2011), where it sold for 270 euro (about US$428 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1850. Madrid. CL. 20 reales. Escasa. MBC/MBC+. (Twenty reales of 1850, Madrid mint. Scarce, very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 482 in Aureo & Calicó sale 233 (Barcelona, April 2011). Both are examples of a rather scarce one year type struck in Seville and Madrid in 1850 only. This date comes with or without a dot under the "A" in "2A". Both are shown here. Another type with a different hairstyle, KM 593.1, is much more available as it was struck 1850-55.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 26.29 g, 0.900 fine silver, .761 troy oz ASW.
