Spain 1843-M DG 1/2 real
This specimen was lot 420 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,320 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1843. Isabel II. Madrid. DG (Departamento de grabado). 1/2 real. Prueba no adoptada. Bellísima. Brillo original. Preciosa pátina. Única conocida. S/C. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, half real of 1843, unadopted pattern, Madrid mint. Exquisite, original luster, only one known, uncirculated.)"
Altho the obverse of this pattern closely resembles the regular bust, the reverse features the pillars of Hercules, a heraldic device not used on the circulating type. The half real was an obsolete denomination in the de vellon system. This auction also featured the matching one and two reales patterns.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare, perhaps unique.
