Spain 1835-DG 8 maravedis

Sincona sale 51, lot 3811

This specimen was lot 3811 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Isabella II. 1833-1868. 8 Maravedis 1835, DG-Madrid. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. PCGS PR Genuine Unc Details. Entfernter Fleck. (kingdom of Spain, Isabella II, 1833-68, eight maravedis of 1835, Madrid mint. Very rare in this condition, Spot removed.)"

This eight maravedis was worth 1/34 of a dollar; history does not record the reason for the odd division. This type was struck in Jubia and Segovia but this is the only issue from Madrid. It is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare, probably less than 10.

Specification: copper, 12.10 g, 29.0-29.1 mm diameter.
