This specimen was lot 10711 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $374. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Reales, 1826-MAJ. Lightly toned, very lustrous and attractive. UNCIRCULATED." This type was struck in Madrid (shown here) 1814-33, in Seville 1815-33 and in Cadiz 1810-12. Lower in fineness than contemporary Latin American issues, they were discounted in international trade. Tho priced fairly cheaply in the SCWC, this type is very difficult to find at U. S. coin shows. An 1826/3 overdate is reported.
