Stack's Bowers June 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72504

This specimen was lot 72504 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Escudos, 1818/6-S. Seville Mint. Ferdinand VII. NGC AU-58. A very attractive and boldly struck example that just barely is excluded form the Mint State category. An 8/6 overdate adds to the appeal of this example." This type was struck 1815-21 and 1824-33 at Seville and is common compared to the similar issues of Latin America. The overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC. Later issues were denominated 80 reales de vellon.
