Spain 1818-Seg 2 maravedis

Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 73037

from the Mountain Groan Collection

The first specimen was lot 73037 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Maravedis, 1818. Segovia Mint. Ferdinand VII. NGC MS-64 Brown. Laureate Head issue. A choice coin with overall, strong eye appeal." This type was struck in Segovia 1816-20 and 1824-33 (note the aqueduct mintmark) and was accompanied by copper one, four and eight maravedis. The type is not rare but scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a fairly common date.

Specification: copper, 3.02 g, 18.5-19.5 mm diameter.
