Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72275

This specimen was lot 72275 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Reales, 1807-S CN. Seville Mint. Charles IV. PCGS AU-53. A largely untoned and decently struck coin with wholesome surfaces, struck just a year before Charles IV abdicated the throne." This type was issued at Seville 1793-1808 and Madrid 1788-1808. They were debased in an attempt to keep them inside Spain. Assayer CN is noted for 1793-1808. The minors, especially one and two reales, are much more common than the pesos.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.812 fine silver, .176 troy oz ASW.
