Aureo sale 243, lot 701

This specimen was lot 701 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 150 € (about US$227 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,

"1806. Carlos IV. Sevilla. CN. 2 reales. Bella. Escasa así. EBC. (two reales of 1806, Seville mint. Nice, scarce thus, extremely fine.)"

This type was issued at Seville 1793-1808 and Madrid 1788-1808. They were debased in an attempt to keep them inside Spain. Assayer CN is noted for 1793-1808. The minors, especially one and two reales, are much more common than the pesos.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.812 fine silver, .176 troy oz ASW.
