Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 285

This specimen was lot 285 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 1,000 € (about US$1,306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1786. Carlos III. Seville. C. 1/2 escudo. Nice color. Missing in almost all specialized collections. Extremely rare. MBC- [about very fine]. Ex Isabel de Trastamara Collection 10/29/2014, no. 618." This type was struck at Madrid and Seville (shown here) 1786-88. Most dates are commo but this one is very scarce. This denomination was not struck in Latin America until the reign of Ferdinand VII.
