This specimen was lot 1973 in Goldberg sale 81 (Los Angeles, September 2014), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain. Escudo, 1779-PJ (Madrid). Charles III. Fully struck with much luster. NGC graded MS-61." This type was issued at Seville and Madrid 1772-85. In 1786, the fineness was reduced to .875. Assayer PJ is recorded for 1765-82.
