This specimen was lot 1312 in Áureo y Calicó sale 346 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €160 (about US$211 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1781. Carlos III. Madrid. PJ. 1 escudo. MBC-/MBC. (kingdom of Spain, Charles III, one escudo of 1781, madrid mint. About very fine.)"
This type was issued at Seville and Madrid 1772-85. In 1786, the fineness was reduced to .875. Assayer PJ is recorded for 1765-82.
