Spain 1687-Seg BR 2 reales
This specimen was lot 464 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €345 (about US$455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1687. Carlos II. Segovia. BR. 2 reales. Tipo "María". Pequeña parte del canto final de riel. Rara. MBC. (kingdom of Spain, Charles II, two reales of 1687, Segovia mint, "Maria" type, minor edge clip. Rare, very fine.)"
Altho this was struck at Segovia 1687 only, it was also produced at Seville in 1686 and 1694 (KM Y32.2). Four and eight reales were also struck to this design, which invokes the protection of the Virgin Mary against the disasters befalling Spain.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
