Barcelona 1687 real
The specimen shown was lot 133 in Aureo y Calicó sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 1,400 € (about US$2,174 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
Carlos II (1665-1700). 1687. Barcelona. 1 croat. Escasa así. EBC-. (Charles II, 1665-1700, croat of 1687, Barcelona mint, scarce, nearly extremely fine.)
The croat, or real, was struck in Barcelona 1667-88 and is not listed as expensive in low grade altho this date is catalogued as scarce. By some quirk, this coin is listed twice in the SCWC, both under Barcelona and in the main Spanish listing, with different values in each case.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.43 g, 0.931 fine silver, .102 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-7253, KM 181 under Spain, KM 40 under Barcelona, Cal. 668.
