Sincona sale 50, lot 1205

This specimen was lot 1205 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 8,500 CHF (about US$10,253 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Königreich. Felipe IV. 1621-1665. 8 Escudos 1641, B-Madrid. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion NGSA 2006, Nr. 471. (kingdom of Spain, Philip IV, 1621-65, eight escudos of 1641, Madrid mint. Very rare, Good very fine.)"

This type is recorded for 1631-63 with all dates noted as rare. The type is further subdivided into KM 136.1 (denomination written as 'VIII') and KM 136.2 (denomination written as '8'). Contemporary issues from Segovia were milled while Seville's products were cobs.
