Ponterio sale 150, lot 9524

This coin was lot 9524 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $874. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 8 Reales, 1633-R. Segovia Mint. One small edge clip, VERY FINE." This type was struck in Segovia 1632-60; all dates are scarce to rare. Simultaneous with these handsome milled coins, the Toledo, Seville and Madrid mints were issuing cobs.
