Áureo y Calicó sale 391, lot 1279

This specimen was lot 1279 in Aureo y Calicó sale 391 (Barcelona, June 2022), where it sold for €400 (about US$503 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1626. Felipe IV. MD (Madrid). V. 4 reales. Ceca horizontal. Visible el ordinal del rey. Fecha rehecha. Buen ejemplar. Ex Colección Isabel de Trastámara 25/05/2017, nº 308. Rarísima y más así. MBC+. (kingdom of Spain, Philip IV, four reales of 1626, Madrid mint, horizontal mintmark, with a visible king's ordinal. Reworked date, nice example. Choice very fine.)"

This type was struck at Madrid 1626-28, 1638-51, 1659-62. Similar four real cobs were struck at Toledo, Seville, Valladolid and Granada. Assayer V operated 1621-30.
