Spain 1621-Seg A+ 2 reales
This specimen was lot 181 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 420 € (about US$549 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1608/21. Felipe III. Segovia. A+. 2 reales. Obv.: PHILIPPVS·III·D·G. Rev.: HISPANIARVM·REX·1621·. End of sheet clip. Attractive. Rare. EBC [extremely fine]. Ex Aureo 04/04/1989, no. 200." This type was struck at Segovia 1608, 1611, 1614 and 1620-21. Numerous overdates are recorded for this year (1621/08, 1621/09, 1621/14 and 1621/11). It is possible no plain dates exist. It is inexpensive in low grade but very scarce in nice condition. The clip mentioned in the description is the result of punching the planchet too close to an existing hole. Had it been the end of the sheet, the clip would have a straight edge.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
