Lerida (1621-65) dinero
This specimen was lot 2608 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 25 € (about US$33 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "s/d. Felipe IV. Lleida. 1 diner. MBC [very fine]." The auctioneers attribute this coin to Lerida in Catalonia, in agreement with the SCWC, which notes KM 5 ("Crowned head left/Fleur-de-lis") or KM 6 ("Crowned head left/Fleur-de-lis but leaves apart"). Cayón does not list this but notes a very similar coin for Valencia with various dates between 1626 and 1665. We can't tell if this coin ever had a date. Regarding the town, Wikipedia comments, "Although the usual Spanish form of the town's name is Lérida, pronounced [ˈleɾiða], the associations of that name with enforced Castilianization under the Francoist regime have led to the Catalan form Lleida being used for official purposes even in Spanish."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper; this specimen 0,49 g.
