Stack's Bowers 2022 NYINC sale, lot 8252

This specimen was lot 8252 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, 1620-To P. Toledo Mint. Philip III. NGC AU-58. A boldly struck coin with clear mintmark, assayer letter, and full date. The surfaces are pleasantly toned, with a few minor spots of strike weakness but no problems." This cob was issued from Toledo 1602 and 1609-21. Similar cobs were produced at Madrid, Valladolid, Seville and Segovia. Segovia also issued milled 8 reales.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common for the type.

Specification: 13.73 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 13.45 g.
